Meet The Innovators – Vintage Vegan Candle Co.

Vintage Vegan Candle Co creates candles from 100% Vegan and eco friendly products. All materials are recyclable including the box that the candles are sent in. Each candle is wrapped in a vintage hessian bag and packaged in an ink stamped kraft box. We caught up with Adam from the Vintage Vegan Candle Co to find out more about how his awesome small business started.

What inspired you to create your brand? How did the business start?

My name is Adam and pre covid I worked as a freelance lighting programmer, designer and technician for the theatre and live events industry.

I decided to setup Vintage Vegan Candle Co as I have always been fascinated with lighting and having spent my career dealing with electric light,

I decided to learn the art of candle light. I create 100% soy candles with vintage designs, always using sustainable materials that can be reused or recycled. All my products can be personalised for gifts. I also designed a range of biodegradable dental products which I hope to expand over the next few months.

What makes your products sustainable?

All my candles and diffusers can be personalised and throughout the year I release limited edition products, all with vintage designs and inspired by
events from the past. I love to add small touches, for example all my diffusers come wrapped in a newspaper article from the mid 1900s and my candles come in a hessian bag.

I wanted my toothbrush set to be different from others so I worked to create a unique gift set which contains a bamboo toothbrush box and biodegradable floss. It is really important to me that everything I produce is zero waste so the fact that this particular product biodegrades within a year of disposal is a huge bonus!

What about your products is sustainable and plastic free? How and what have you changed or altered to make the products zero plastic, zero waste or sustainable?

All elements of my candles are sustainable and plastic free. I source my soy wax from a sustainable supplier in Europe and my amber jars come from a small business. Everything from the kraft labels on the candle jar to the tape I seal the boxes with can be recycled. The jars look lovely and can be reused. The fragrances I use to create my candles are vegan and nothing has been tested on animals. This is very important to me and I always make sure when I am producing new products that I check this with the supplier.

My toothbrushes are made from Moso bamboo, which grows exceptionally fast and can reach up to 20 metres in two years. The bamboo toothbrush can be disposed of in a food bin and will biodegrade in landfill within 6 to 12 months. The bristles and floss are also made from natural products and the packaging is 100% recyclable card.

What is your best seller or favourite product in your line?

My best seller has been the Smoked Sage and Sea Salt Candle. I also released a vintage Halloween candle back in October, with unique label designs taken from horror comic art from the 1950s. These were a big hit and sold out within weeks. I will definitely be re releasing them again this year!
