Description

SOW INDOORS – FROM MID FEB

PLANT OUTDOORS – MARCH to APRIL

HARVEST- AUGUST to MARCH

For a head start, sow indoors initially. Fill a pot or tray with seed sowing compost nearly to the top. Sow the seeds 1/2 inch deep and cover with seed compost. Place in a light, warm space in 10-25°C (50-77°F). Make sure there is plenty of light and drainage for the pots. Germination usually takes 7-12 days.

After about 4 or 5 weeks growth, when seedlings are large enough to handle, they’re ready to be transferred into larger pots (8cm). When danger of frost has passed, gradually harden off when planting outdoors to a well drained, sunny position spacing plants 60cm apart.

Or, sow outdoors when frost has passed, where they are to grow, 1/2 inch deep, into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Thin seedlings to 3cm apart as required.
