Description

You can sow parsley virtually all year round. Fill a seed tray with seed sowing compost nearly to the top. Sprinkle the seeds over the surface and cover with a thin sprinkling of seed compost (approx 2mm deep). Place in a light, warm space in 18-21°C (64-69°F). Make sure there is plenty of light and drainage for the pots. Germination usually takes 14-21 days but can be tricky to germinate so may take up to 40 days. To increase the germination process, place in a propagator. If you don’t have one, wrap in some cling film instead. Keep out of direct sunlight until germination occurs. Uncover once germination has occurred and leave in a light windowsill.

When seedlings are large enough to handle (between 2-4cm usually), they’re ready to be transferred into larger pots (8cm). When danger of frost has passed, gradually harden off when planting outdoors to a well drained, sunny position spacing plants 30cm apart.

For outdoor cultivation, sow thinly March to July where they are to grow, 10mm deep, into finely prepared, moist soil. Ensure seedlings are watered well. Cloche protection allows year long harvest. To harvest pick leaves from the outside of the plant as required.
