Description
PLANT INDOORS/UNDER COVER – OCTOBER to MARCH
PLANT OUTDOORS – APRIL to SEPTEMBER
HARVEST – ALL YEAR ROUND
Seeds can be started indoors from October till March. Fill a seed tray with seed sowing compost nearly to the top. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover with seed compost (approx 1/4 inch deep and 3cm spacing). Place in a light space in warmth of 15-20°C and keep moist. Germination should take 7 days or so. For direct outdoor sowings, sow directly into rows one seed at a time.
When seedlings are large enough to handle (between 2-4cm usually), thin out the leaves if necessary and gradually harden off outside. Thinnings can be used in salads. Keep seedlings in a light position, but keep them out of the bright sun as they will wilt. This variety is quick to establish even in slightly cold conditions. To harvest, simply cut the leaves at the bottom or pull out entirely.
