Description

PLANT INDOORS – SEPTEMBER to MARCH

PLANT OUTDOORS – MARCH to MAY

FLOWERS – JULY to OCTOBER

Sow indoors from September to March for transplanting outdoors in spring, or direct sow outdoors from March to May. In autumn, sow seeds very thinly (2mm deep) in free-draining, seed sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 21C (70F) until germination which takes 14-21 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle (between 2-4cm usually), they’re ready to be transferred into larger pots. Gradually harden off when planting outdoors before transferring into well drained soil. Once Spring, sowings can be made outdoors directly at a depth of 6mm, and a distance of 30cm apart.

Lavatera like well drained soil in full sun, sheltered from the wind. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. You can collect the seeds once flowering has ceased.
