Description

PLANT – DECEMBER to MARCH

HARVEST – JUNE to NOVEMBER, HEIGHT – 45cm

Seeds can be started indoors from December till March. Fill a seed tray with seed sowing compost nearly to the top. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly over with seed compost (approx 1/4 inch deep). Place in a light space in warmth of 20-25°C and keep moist. To increase the germination process, place in a propagator. If you don’t have one, wrap in some cling film instead.

When seedlings are large enough to handle (between 2-4cm usually), they’re ready to be transferred into larger pots. Keep seedlings in a light position, but keep them out of the bright sun as they will wilt otherwise. Transplant into 9cm pots and add some fertiliser into the soil. Once the plants are 20cm tall, it may be best to transplant into a large pot (about 30cm diameter). Stake up if required. Chilli plants like water, so keep moist especially during hot periods. Plants can be placed outside from June onwards.
