Description

SOW – ANY TIME OF YEAR, FLOWERS – JUNE – AUGUST

HEIGHT – Height 120cm, spread 60cm

Sow indoors at any time of year. Fill a seed tray with seed sowing compost nearly to the top. Sprinkle seeds over the surface and very lightly cover with seed compost (approx 1/8 inch deep). It will aid germination if you add vermiculite thinly onto the top. Place in a propagator. If you don’t have one, wrap in some cling film instead in a light, space in 15-20C (70°F) and keep moist (but not wet). Germination takes 1-3 months and is very erratic hence the need to sow seeds very thinly.

When seedlings are large enough to handle (between 2-4cm usually), they’re ready to be transferred into larger pots (9-11cm) or trays and grow. Grow on in cooler conditions and ensure there is lots of light, but avoid direct sunlight. When danger of frost has passed, gradually harden off when planting outdoors to a sunny position.

Agapanthus is fairly hardy and will survive a light frost. However, to be on the safe side you can cover with a cloche over winter or a frost free place if grow in a container.
