A list of all the gifts you were about to search for online

That’s right, we’re here to save the day. We know that around this time of the year, pre festive gift jitters can start to arise and concerns on how to protect the planet at the same time as treating the people you love, can nudge their way to the surface.

Is it really possible to buy into (pun intended) the indulgence of Christmas whilst remaining sustainable or even positively impactful? Here at ecomersh, we like to think so, and that’s why we’re here to help.

Pro tips for sustainable shopping:

Buy from small businesses closest to you to reduce mileage.

You can massively reduce carbon impact by buying from local sellers or within your own country. Not only that, every time you buy from an independent small business, someone somewhere does a happy dance. Your pound really affects smaller companies, so spend it wisely.

Check out the packaging.

Is it packaged in plastic or can it be sent without? Do they use environmentally friendly packaging like cardboard or natural papers? Plus – how are you gift wrapping it? Why not tie a string or ribbon around some newspaper or baking paper, rustic, hip and plant-safe. Or check out some of these gorgeous reusable gift bags, job done.

Lifetime guarantee.

Consider whether the item you’re buying is something that has longevity in the recipient’s life. Sure, we’re not saying a box of delicious vegan chocolates is going to stick around for long, but, if you’re buying something non-consumable, make sure it’s good quality, has a lifetime guarantee if applicable or can easily be make-do-and-mended if something were to happen. Even consider – do they really need it or would they use it?

With all these rules to sustainable shopping, the practice can seem a little daunting. Fortunately we are here to help with some fab ideas for those even more fabulous people in your life. You can click on the images below to be taken to the product page and purchase if they look like a great gift for friends and family!
